I’m glad my husband didn’t invite any firefighter friends to our Great Pumpkin Party tonight, because I’m sure we broke fire code (regarding how many people can safely fit into our 1350 sq. foot home). Counting adults and children, there was somewhere between 60-70 at the largest/loudest point. The best part, as always, is how awesome our friends [...]

Cynthia at Digital Sanctuary gives some great tips for new bloggers: Where to blog your faith? Her guest post over at Jason Clark’s was excellent too—blogging your spiritual gifts. Hm. I really like Jason’s guest blogger idea…I might have to steal it one of these days.
One for the Road always has plenty of meaty thoughts, but I couldn’t [...]

The Latin word limina means threshold. Liminality is where all transformation happens. It is when we are betwixt and between, and therefore by definition “not in control.” Nothing new happens as long as we are inside our self-constructed comfort zone. Much of our day to day effort at life is toward maintaining our personal little [...]

Junia, mysterious somebody of Romans 16…fellow-prisoner with Paul…or Junius the man…or Junia, helper of the apostles…or Junia the apostle…?
Growing up fundamentalist, I was taught that the name was likely referring to a man, Junius, because 1.) We know that a woman can’t be an apostle, and 2.) everyone knows there were only 12 apostles, anyhow.
Case closed.
Only, most scholars [...]

“…In the last two years I have gone from attending a rather typical Southern Baptist Church to now attending a home church. I attended along with several men from our church, the…conference and was convinced that much of what was being said was thoroughly biblical and needed in our church. After some time, there was [...]

In the name of Absolute Truth, are many in Christendom taught to view both the opposing view and the view-holder with contempt?
On the other side of the spectrum, some members of society (preachers of ”Tolerance”
seem to think it’s a hate-crime simply to disagree. I sincerely hope they are wrong, because I happen to disagree - without any hate [...]

“Only by giving the Bible a devotional spin when we read it, by taking isolated verses out of context and ignoring the raw whole, by filtering and interpreting, do we “civilize” it. Civilized, the Bible has become a devotional prop of middle class values instead of being the rude challenge to false propriety it actually [...]

Two things. The first is that I am naturally more of a speaker/storyteller than I am a writer. So, I have this annoying tendancy to put a comma everywhere, thinking they are the same thing as a dramatic pause effect or something (I had to take two extra commas out of that sentance just now!). See [...]

‘Nature has left this tincture in the blood,
that all men would be tyrants
if they could.’
Daniel Defoe
Who can forget Babel, the first record we have of humans uniting together, to make their name great. There was an apparent problem with it, either with the purpose for the tower or the unification itself - perhaps both. [...]

When Jesus said He came to free captives, what type of captivity was He talking about?
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, becasue He hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the [...]
