The widow’s mite in Luke 21 tells us we aren’t being measured by outward measuring sticks when God looks at us. If we are to be like God, the obvious conclusion would be that we aren’t to measure in outward ways either. Which is a careful thing. Because on the one hand, we are reminded to “know [...]

Please read Speaking in Tongues [Part One] if you haven’t already.
I kept waiting for this force to overtake me. I guess that’s what I thought it must be like, this tongues thing. You know, something would take over my body and I’d start talking automatically, unable to stop myself, kind of like a robot when [...]

I remember first turning to Yahweh at nineteen but not yet realizing that He spoke. I grew up fundamentalist, in a warm God-loving “we’ll-break-our-backs-to-help-you-and-we-really-mean-it” congregation (and they still are wonderful like that!), however the Holy Spirit was shrouded in mystery.
A few years back, I sat in a class with this same congregation where a leader there shared (openly, humbly) his confusion when it comes [...]

Edit to add: this link to an excellent commentary from Kari at Healed Waters (regarding the posts on prayer at Everyday Mommy).
Edit Again to Add: I was just informed that my comments (and Kari’s) were all deleted from Everyday Mommy. In case you’re wondering why I’m pretending below like I was having a (nice) conversation over there, I [...]

Never was a Cat or Cog drown’d that could but see the Shore. Thomas Fuller (1654-1734)
I’ve noticed, as I’ve wandered through the Scriptures, that being ashamed is diametrically opposed to having hope.
“And hope maketh not ashamed…” Romans 5:5
[ashamed, #2617, lit: to shame down, to put to blushing, dishonored, disgraced]
Hope is a word I’ve never thought about [...]

I met him and he struck me as perfectly ordinary (er, if you count vegan punk rockers as ordinary). We sat together watching illegal 4th of July fireworks somewhere out where East Texas pine trees grow, and his arm went around my shoulders and stayed there. That night we slept next to eachother. A few nights later, [...]

See that pic of me on the sidebar and above? I’m wearing a hand-made originally-designed zip-up jacket that a stay-home mom friend of mine created, venus fly-trap applique and all. Girlfriend is good. I can’t do stuff like that and am always impressed at people who can.
Lydia was supposed to be the model, but mysteriously had to [...]

I don’t exactly remember when he came. Probably early on—maybe he was already soaking in my birthwater, or came through a toddler mishap, but the lines between he and I blurred at some point and it seemed we were one and the same. That he was something I didn’t have to have lurking in the [...]

Read the full post here, please (and the link trail provided is also interesting—thanks to iMonk as usual for thoughtful blog entries), in order to get the full context of the following questions related to the complementarian understanding of 1 Timothy 2:12. I would like to quote the 10 specific questions here, because I think the [...]

A sweet friend of mine shares the latest update on her 9 year old daughter and their battle with Papillary Thyroid Cancer. Regarding the update, it’s not good…but it’s not bad…it just is what it is. Urgh.
These are their adorable kids. If you think about them, please pray for this sweet family. I’m including [...]
