Dr. Seuss Leaves Conservative Christianity

I wrote this poem a year ago.  You can tell I had just read a Dr. Seuss book to the kids, can’t you?  And, yes, the lines are a little bitter.  But it was where I was at, and that’s not in reference to any one particular church or conservative group, actually, especially not the church I grew up [...]

Like, Oh My Gosh! Like, Emergent/Postmodern? That is SO no way!!!

The results of this little theological worldview test* are especially funny considering I used to write scathing posts against postmodernism, and am now scoring as 79% emergent/postmodern (second was 72% neo-orthodox)…
The even funnier part is that while writing, I had no clue what postmodernism actually was, not to mention modernism.  It was just a fun buzzword to use, [...]

Letters from Readers: What Do You Do When…? (Two-Year-Old-Tantrums)

Moot Thoughts and Musings recently wrote about mothering and grace, and had a comment addressed to me that I will answer here.  Referring to the way I sometimes handle a two-year-old fit (here) and also complimenting those conversing here, View from the Prairie Box wondered,
Molly’s posts are really encouraging and I found myself reading through the comments as [...]

Back to the Gentle Parenting Series…Parent-as-Shepherd

A few folks have written to me defending spanking, which surprised me because I’m personally not entirely opposed to spanking (though I’m fairly certain it need happen only very rarely in our home).  Apparently, it appears I’ve made an anti-spanking impression, so let me be try to be clear: What I am opposed to is the adversarial [...]

Oh No, I’ve Become a L-Word!

I knew it was probably true, but preferred not to think about it.  Last time I gathered with some family friends around the big eat-good-food-while-we-debate-late-into-the-night table, yammering about this and that (topics ranging from global warming to Bush to the Iraq war to Israel to welfare to illegal immigrants to health care to abortion, etc, [...]

Considering the Roman Household Codes

Inbetween trying to beat my kids at foosball and having way more cookies than are remotely good for me, I enjoyed tossing up a post at Complegalitarian tonight.
As a patriarchalist, I didn’t know there were any Household Codes, and this includes three full years of studying Bible and Theology at a Bible College.
The first time [...]

Merry Christmas

We’re gathering with family from both sides, today and tomorrow, enjoying meals and presents and conversations lubricated by good drinks.  I never relate with sermons on how to keep from get depressed during the Holidays, because for me, the Holidays are a major reason I don’t get depressed.  Now, January—dark, cold, Alaskan January where summer’s green is still [...]

The Bible and Evangelical Papal Authority (”My Interpretation!” “No, Mine!”)

The Parenting with Grace series is still going, along with a few more (delicious) guest authors.  Excuse this parenthetical rant (which has nothing to do with the beliefs of any guest authors, so if you must cry, “heretic,” direct it *only* in my direction).

I’ve posted my growing issues with Sola Scriptura before (here, recently).  Reading Barbara Curtis and [...]

Roll, Roll, Roll My Eyes and Christmas Trees are Pagan—-Run!

I don’t always remember to tell you, but I’ve posted recently at Complegalitarian: Husbands and Wives are as Gardener and Soil (and should LIKE it).  As you can tell, I’m getting  less tentative and more fiesty in my leanings toward egalitarianism.  I apologize to anyone who is bothered by that, but the fact is, the farther I [...]

Building up Hearts

…It is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace…
